Tiger Woods entered a no contest plea to reckless driving Wednesday following a rollover crash in March near his Florida home, a change from his initial not guilty plea.
As part of the plea agreement, the Martin County judge ordered Woodsâ drivers license be suspended for five years. He also pleaded no contest to refusing to submit to testing and was fined court costs, according to court documents obtained by the AP.
Woods arrived at the courthouse with his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, President Donald Trumpâs former daughter-in-law, who sat behind him during the hearing. He did not speak to reporters upon leaving the courthouse.
According to sheriffâs officials, Woods was going at a âhigh speed,â when his SUV overtook a truck hauling a pressure cleaner trailer on a two-lane road with a 30mph speed limit. Woodsâ Land Rover supposedly swerved to avoid the trailer, however, it ended up clipping the back end of it. The Land Rover flipped and skidded to a stop with the driverâs door pinned against the ground.
Following his arrest in March, Woods stepped away to focus on his health and received in-person treatment out of the country.
One on the most influential figures in golf, Woodsâ career was derailed after he had suffered several severe injuries, underwent numerous back surgeries and knee reconstructions and developed a dependence on pain medication.
