After conspiracy theories emerged online that the "Love You Like a Love Song" singer was actually replaced by a clone, she poked fun at the speculation. 

In a skit posted by Micky Gordon on Instagram April 1, Selena walked up to the receptionist desk at the Rare Beauty HQ, saying, "My new assistant is starting today. Is she here?"

After learning that her new employee was already in her office, they sat down to discuss the day's tasks on her to-do list.

"The foundation casting," Mickey began, "and then, something about calling a clone. I don't know, could ignore that."

Selena's cheeky video comes as online users have theorized that Selena, 33, had been replaced by a body double, citing changes in her appearance and mannerisms. In one instance, she addressed the speculation about her voice after fans noticed her tone had changed.

"I've gotten this question a few times. Sometimes, when I'm on—never mind, there's no excuse," Selena said in December. "I don't really care. I think my point is that things happen. My throat kind of swells on the inside sometimes. That's all."

The Rare Beauty founder previously shared that all of the changes she experienced were a result of her ongoing battle with lupus and her bipolar disorder diagnosis. 

"My lupus, my kidney transplant, chemotherapy, having a mental illness, going through very public heartbreaks," she told Elle in 2021, "these were all things that honestly should have taken me down."

But Selena—who tied the knot with Benny Blanco in November—always tries to remember how impactful her transparency has been for others.

"Every time I went through something, I was like, 'What else? What else am I going to have to deal with? You're going to help people,'" she reflected. "That's really what kept me going. There could have been a time when I wasn't strong enough, and would have done something to hurt myself."

The “Sk8er Boi” rocker reacted to online theories that she died in the early aughts and was replaced by a doppelganger named Melissa, who supposedly was hired before the singer’s “death” to stand in for her at public events due to Avril’s exhaustion. 

“I mean, it’s just funny to me,” the “Complicated” singer said on a May 2024 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast. “On one end, everyone’s like, ‘You look the exact same. You haven’t aged a day.’ But then other people are like, there’s a conspiracy theory that I’m not me.”

Though the Grammy winner—who is now mom to daughter Blue Ivy and twins Rumi and Sir with husband Jay-Z—iconically debuted her first pregnancy during a performance at the 2011 MTV VMAs, she became the subject of theories that she wore a fake belly bump and enlisted a surrogate.

“That was crazy. It wasn’t hurtful, it was just crazy,” she told People in 2012, per The Hollywood Reporter. “Where did they come up with this?”

Fans thought Beyoncé’s baby bump appeared to deflate during an appearance on an Australian TV show months prior, which the singer shot down as “stupid, ridiculous and false” through a rep at the time.
