Former Kanye West Security Guard Sues for Unpaid Wages Totaling Nearly $900,000

Kanye West’s former security guard is suing the musician for nearly $900,000 over allegedly unpaid wages dating back to 2021.

The artist formerly known as Kanye West is being sued by a former security guard at his Malibu property, alleging unpaid wages dating back to 2021. Jonathan Monroe is seeking nearly $900,000.

Monroe first alleged in a 2024 complaint that he was “fired because of his complaints of not getting paid any wages.” The filing asserts that he was a hired as a full-time security guard in 2021, and was working between 36 and 50 hours a week until he was suddenly fired that October.

In a new filing on April 7 in the Superior Court of California, Monroe is seeking a court judgement against West, amounting to $849,747.94. Specifically, he is seeking $500,000 for lost future earnings, $100,000 for pain and suffering, $100,000 in punitive damages, $37,620 in unpaid wages, and $7,725 for unpaid overtime.

There are currently two related hearings on the docket for this week, including one that focuses on an order to show cause in connection with the dismissal.

In his original complaint, Monroe claimed that West and his associates made labor code violations, including misclassifying him as an independent contractor, unpaid overtime, and unlawful withholding of wages. Monroe further alleged that he was fired unlawfully and with the intention of “punishing him” for continuing to ask about his unpaid wages.

It’s just the latest in a slew of complaints over the last few years against the artist now known as Ye. Earlier this year, the artist was found liable for allegations made by another former employee who sued him in 2023. Tony Saxon was a former handyman who was fired from his position as project manager of the remodel of Ye’s Malibu home.

West is also involved in a lawsuit from his former assistant, Lauren Pisciotta, who accused him of sexual assault, battery, stalking, sex trafficking, false imprisonment, and more. Yet another former employee sued him with allegations that Ye verbally abused and bullied her for being Jewish.
