The MomTok drama will continue as The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is back for a tranche of new episodes.
Hulu has renewed the reality series for 20 more episodes, which will essentially be a combination of Season 6 and 7, and cameras have already started rolling.
This comes, however, as Deadline understands that season five – the season that was interrupted by the litany of investigations into Taylor Frankie Paul – will be truncated.
We hear Season 5, which will air later this year, will only feature five episodes, rather than the traditional ten that the previous seasons have been.
The show, which is produced by Jeff Jenkins Productions, was in production earlier this year but was halted as a result of allegations of domestic assault against Paul, who was caught on camera throwing a metal stool at her ex-boyfriend.
Paul, who had domestic charges dropped, was set to be the star of The Bachelorette, but the dating show was pulled as a result of these incidents, which emerged days after season four of Mormon Wives launched on Hulu.
Season 5 will feature this drama. Layla Taylor, one of the stars of the show, revealed on Disney’s Get Real podcast, said that it would be a “dark” season. “It’s no secret that MomTok has been going through some drama this year,” she said. “It was the start of the blow up, it was definitely a darker season but a necessary one to understand where everyone’s at.”
Cameras are now rolling for the next 20 episodes. These will likely be split into Season 6 and 7 but it’s not confirmed whether they will both be ten episodes or there will be a different configuration. That will depend on the drama.
Hulu has not confirmed which cast members are involved but Taylor is clearly in, as is Paul, who responded to a message of social media saying she would be in Season 6.
Other stars include Jessi Draper, Jen Affleck, Miranda Hope, Mikayla Matthews and Mayci Neeley. Whitney Leavitt previously revealed Season 5 would be her last season.
“We’re filming season six now. I am exhausted… we have this battle that all of the girls talk about. When we’re not filming, I miss it and, honestly, I get kind of bored and so much happens conveniently when the cameras go down so it’s like at this point, let’s just film the whole year,” Taylor added.
Asked whether Season 6 would be lighter than Season 5, Taylor said “fingers crossed”. “There’s obviously always going to be drama with a group of women. I would like for it to feel a bit more joyful,” she added.
