EXCLUSIVE: A24 has set a Dec. 11 limited opening for 2x Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg‘s latest directorial, The Debut.

The movie stars Oscar winner Julianne Moore as an unassuming housewife, who is unexpectedly cast in a community theater production. She loses herself in the role under the spell of a strong-willed director. Two-time Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti stars with Halle Bailey, Cara Buono and Eisenberg. The movie reps a reteam for Eisenberg and Moore, the actress previously starring in his 2022 feature directorial debut, When You Finish Saving the World. We know for certain The Debut will be showing up at a fall film festival (or two).

Currently booked on Dec. 11 is an untitled Bleecker Street music event title and Angel Studios’ action movie Zero A.D., both going wide.

The Debut will go wide over Christmas. This is a similar platform that A24 has had for such Oscar contending (and winning) titles as The Brutalist and The Whale.

Eisenberg’s A Real Pain, which he directed and wrote, notched two Oscar noms for Original Screenplay and Kieran Culkin in Best Supporting Actor, winning for the latter.

Upcoming A24 had the Anthony Bourdain biopic, Tony, on Aug. 7, the Adam Wingard directed action horror pic Onslaught on Sept. 4, as well as myriad untitled holds for Sept. 18, Oct. 9, Nov. 6, Nov. 20 and Jan. 29, 2027.
