Michael Douglas, Willem Dafoe, Ellen Barkin and Homer Gere Join Oliver Stone’s ‘White Lies’

Homer Gere, Ellen Barkin, Willem Dafoe and Michael Douglas have joined the cast of Oliver Stone‘s “White Lies.” It marks a reunion between Douglas and Stone, who collaborated on “Wall Street,” as well as between Dafoe and Stone, who worked together on “Platoon” and “Born on the Fourth of July.” Yvonne Chapman will also be part of the ensemble. Josh Hartnett was previously announced as the star of the film.

Stone has quietly completed principal photography on “White Lies,” a long-gestating passion project that was filmed across Europe and Asia. It will be the director’s first narrative feature in a decade — his last film was 2016’s “Snowden.”

“The cast was a delight from beginning to end. And the Italian crew was the warmest I ever worked with. I’m profoundly grateful for this opportunity,” Stone shared in a statement.

In a recent interview with Variety, Stone described the film, which he wrote and directed, as “a personal story about people and relationships.” In a press release announcing the casting, the film is positioned as “a departure from his past work, offering an intimate and provocative drama that explores family, loss, pain and uncovers how love can change shape during our lifetimes.”

“White Lies” follows Jack Freeman (Hartnett), a child of divorce who is repeating his parents’ mistakes in his own marriage and with his own children. He embarks on “a lust-filled journey to escape — only to find himself more lost than before.” Things change when he meets a woman, whose life is the opposite of his own.

Fernando Sulichin produces alongside Maximilien Arvelaiz and Jordan Gertner for Sulichin’s New Element Media. Tarak Ben Ammar and Gianluca Leurini of Eagle Pictures join James Packer and Jose Luis Manzano as executive producers.

Douglas won an Oscar for “Wall Street.” His credits include “Wonder Boys,” “Basic Instinct” and “Fatal Attraction.” Dafoe is a four-time Oscar nominee, including for “Platoon,” and has srarred in “The Florida Project,” “The Last Temptation of Christ” and “Poor Things.” Barkin has appeared in “Diner,” “Sea of Love,” “This Boy’s Life” and on TV’s “Animal Kingdom.” Gere’s work includes “The Shards” and “Euphoria.” Chapman has featured in “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
