Jake Foy is one of Hallmark Channel’s most exciting new stars and he has a lot to celebrate right now, including his one-year wedding anniversary!
The 35-year-old actor and husband Nicolas La Traverse got married one year ago, surrounded by 100 of their closest friends and family at their wedding in Montreal, Quebec. The couple, who celebrated their anniversary on September 27, currently live in Los Angeles with their dog-daughter Daisy.
Jake is leading Hallmark Channel’s upcoming movie, Who’s Coming for Christmas?, airing on October 30 during the highly-anticipated Countdown to Christmas programming slate. He’ll also be seen in another holiday movie debuting on Netflix later in the season. He previously starred in Hallmark’s series Ride and has been seen in shows like Designated Survivor, Reign, and Wildnerness.
Nicolas just produced the new Tubi series This Is a Game Show? and he has some exciting things in the works, including a passion project with Jake.
We caught up with Jake and Nicolas to learn more about their first year of marriage, memories from their wedding, upcoming holiday plans, and more.
All about their first year of marriage!
JUST JARED: What’s the most special memory you have from your wedding?
JAKE & NICOLAS: For us both, it was walking down the aisle hand in hand. It was important to us that we have our ceremony in a church as a symbol of how far our culture has come — even in very trying times. As such, we were able to modify some marriage “traditions” and seeing our friends and family *together* as we approached the alter was unforgettable. Second to that would have to be our river cruise reception… dinner and dancing on the Saint Lawrence in Montréal with one hundred of our amazing friends and closest loved ones was nearly as special.
JJ: What have you learned about each other in the first year of marriage?
J & N: It’s funny, because nobody really talks about the “what now?” moment that hits right after you get married. You feel like there must be something next to do, and it turns out it’s the opposite. The coming months were spent really asking each other what our shared vision is for all the years to come… It’s this process that still really forces us to dig deep and define what brings us fulfillment as individuals, as well as a newly official pair. It can be hard to sum up “what we’ve learned” because our shared belief is the best marriages are always learning — every single day.
JJ: What are you most excited for in year two of being married?
J & N: More traveling, more adventures, more creating and entertaining (both hosting gatherings and making movies), all while as soaking up the sunny years of early marriage before *maybe* starting a family of our own.

JJ: What can you tease about your upcoming Hallmark movie, Who’s Coming for Christmas? How was it working with Rhiannon Fish?
JAKE: There’s not much I can reveal yet, but I can tease that this will be my second movie for Hallmark with director David Strasser, and our last was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award! So hopefully, that sets some expectations for the quality you can expect. As for Ms. Fish’s loveliness, her reputation precedes her. This film was unique in that I play a dad to young actress Mila Morgan, who is a star in her own right… I think audiences will be surprised to find themselves rooting for a love story that’s as much about dad and daughter as it is about romance.
JJ: The movie is premiering on Halloween weekend. Which holiday do you enjoy more: Halloween or Christmas?
JAKE: It’s funny you mention this because my birthday is actually November 1st. As a kid, there was always a party in class or some neighborhood festivities to celebrate around my birthday because of Halloween, and dressing up was a blast. Also, it’s sort of “the first day of Christmas” as far as pop culture is concerned! Now that I’m older, and I (gratefully) make-believe for a living… the spookiness and dress-up matter less to me. It’s impossible to beat the warmth and charm of the Christmas season. I’m also supporting on Netflix’s Christmas release of GUARDING STARS with Leighton Meester, Jared Padalecki and Andie MacDowell, so this particular Christmas is one I’m looking forward to.
JJ: You’re so much more than just an actor, with writing and directing credits on your resume as well. What inspires you to pursue all of these creative outlets? What’s your dream project?
JAKE: Honestly, the biggest turning point in this journey was my start in musical theatre and the originating workshops of the Broadway-bound smash-hit Come From Away. Before its enormous success, my peers in theatre school were exposed to the process of seeing such a sweeping story through its development. That was in 2012. Fifteen years later, it’s impossible for me to not imagine the stories of my life — now *our* shared life — envisioned for the stage and screen. As for dream projects, Nic & I have a slate of film, television and musical projects we’re excited for you to see in coming years… but, I’d love to play Howard Ashman or Tennessee Williams in a biopic someday. Until then, being Nic’s husband is the dream role du jour.
JJ: You got your start in musical theatre and have already directed a musical short film. Do you see yourself doing more musicals or ever returning to the stage?
JAKE: If all goes to plan, I’ll be directing studio movie musicals before you know it. As for returning to the stage — what Broadway and theatrical performers are doing is too demanding for my calendar right now. The commitments are long, sporadic and can be unreliable. Which is why I admire our stage artists so much. I do think it could be fun to spend ‘retirement’ returning to older roles. Maybe Billy Flynn in CHICAGO or The Wizard in WICKED… Time will tell.

JJ: Can you tell us more about your role at Home Game Studios and what you’re working on lately?
NICOLAS: I’m a producer at Home Game Studios, where we develop, produce and distribute premium unscripted content with creators for YouTube and beyond. Most recently I produced THIS IS A GAME SHOW? now on Tubi with Mitsy Sanderson, and I also work on the development side across both scripted and unscripted. Before the end of the year I’m producing two more shows: an unscripted dating series and a scripted horror/thriller series.
JJ: After working on a game show, would you ever want to appear as a contestant on one? What would be your dream competition or game show to be on?
NICOLAS: Ha, great question. I’m firmly a behind-the-camera guy, so no, I don’t think you’ll ever see me as a contestant… But if I had to pick, the dream would be DEAL OR NO DEAL. (Jake is laughing at this and learning this for the first time with you. A year into marriage and you’re still discovering these random things…)
JJ: What is it like working with Jake to produce his upcoming directorial debut, and what can you tease about it? How do you balance work life and home life when collaborating on a project?
NICOLAS: It’s been a blessing. Being partners in work, love and life isn’t always easy, but it creates such a fun sandbox to play in. Ideas come to us randomly on date nights, we riff on ideas while walking the dog, and overall we’re a well-oiled machine. Jake’s directorial debut, THEIR LAST SEMESTER, has been a passion project for a few years now, and we’re very close to locking financing for a 2027 shoot! We’re also proud of our slated half-hour bowling comedy PINGUIN LANES. As for balance, the key is being extremely communicative… Clarity and transparency are our shared love languages.
