MNRK Music Group has officially acquired the “complete” recorded catalog of Zakk Wylde-founded Black Label Society (BLS), including over 300 total tracks from the veteran heavy metal group.
New York City-headquartered MNRK, which has a “longstanding partnership” with Wylde and released Black Label Society’s Engines of Demolition this past March, reached out with word of the investment.
Since arriving on the scene with 1998’s Sonic Brew, BLS has put out a dozen studio albums, among them 2005’s Mafia, 2010’s Order of the Black (released via eOne/MNRK), 2014’s Catacombs of the Black Vatican, and 2018’s Grimmest Hits, to name a few. Consequently, tracks such as “Stillborn,” “Rust,” and “Suicide Messiah” are part of the newly inked deal.
So are live albums including Alcohol Fueled Brewtality Live!! +5 (2001) and Unblackened (2013); EPs No More Tears (1999), the instrumental Glorious Christmas Songs That Will Make Your Black Label Heart Feel Good (2011), and Nuns and Roaches: Tasty Little Bastards (2019); several compilations; and Wylde’s solo recordings.
Looking ahead, MNRK intends to zero in on “new opportunities for collaboration around reissues, catalog curation, and legacy campaigns” – besides expanding “Black Label Society’s music across streaming, vinyl, and new formats” in an effort to reach additional fans.
Part of this focus will be on “new projects that fuse traditional heavy metal with contemporary sounds and rising acts,” the Prosthetic Records owner also noted.
However, Wylde, who previously cashed in on his compositional IP under a Round Hill Music deal, “will continue to remain actively involved in shaping how the music is presented and experienced, ensuring that the spirit and authenticity of the catalog remain intact while evolving for a modern audience,” according to Blackstone-powered MNRK.
Addressing the deal, MNRK president and CEO Sean Stevenson noted Black Label Society’s “enduring” fanbase and touched on his company’s plans to bolster the catalog’s following.
“Black Label Society has built one of the most enduring and loyal fanbases in heavy music. Owning and continuing to grow this catalog is a natural next step for us, and we’re proud to deepen our partnership with Zakk for the long term,” said Stevenson.
And in remarks of his own, MNRK Heavy SVP Scott Givens touted Wylde as “one of the true icons of modern heavy music.”
“The Black Label Society catalog represents decades of powerful songwriting, unforgettable riffs, and an incredibly dedicated global audience. We’re excited to bring new energy to these releases and continue expanding their reach across streaming, vinyl, and new generations of fans,” Givens concluded.
Black Label Society has stateside tour dates (plus a few stops in Brazil) booked through November and, as currently scheduled, will begin 2027 with two performances in Mexico before kicking off a European leg.
