A planned Star Wars movie is no longer moving forward…as a Star Wars movie, anyway.
Paddington 2 and Wonka writer Simon Farnaby recently gave an interview, where he discussed a project that was meant to take place in the popular franchise.
The 53-year-old writer, comedian and actor addressed what happened to the movie, which would have been directed by collaborator Paul King.
Following the success of Paddington 2, the duo were made an offer from Disney and Lucasfilm to helm a film.
“So we got distracted by that for a while,” he told Variety.
What Was the Planned ‘Star Wars’ Movie About?
According to Simon, the idea was based around a robot, and did not involve any of the major characters from the Star Wars universe.

“They were like, we really need it to be a Star Wars movie, which is probably why it didn’t get turned into a Star Wars movie! But we never really nailed it,” he admitted.
All was not entirely lost, however: the “unspecified robot” idea is being reworked by Disney.
The Robot Story Will Live On as a New Sci-Fi Movie
“They basically said, it’s not right for Star Wars, but do you want to rework it as a sci-fi film? So we’re working on that now,” he explained.
