Is it getting frosty in here... or is it just our eyes? For the past few months, we've seen plenty of celebrities on the red carpet (and on stage) rock a frosty eye. From colorful and dramatic to subtle and simple, a touch of shimmer and glitter in a cool-tone shade makes all the difference.

On the carpet, the skin and lashes are left glowy, simple, and natural. The eyes, on the other hand, pack a frosty punch. To help us explain this shimmering trend, we chatted with celebrity makeup artist Anthony Merante. His celebrity clients include Ava Max, Taraji P. Henson, Madison Bailey, and more.

According to Merante, frosty eye makeup is becoming so popular because people are ready to move beyond the clean girl aesthetic. They want to have fun with makeup again. And there's nothing more fun to play around with than an eye look that's shimmering, glittery, and frosty.

"Frosted shadow feels playful, experimental, and a little nostalgic, but it also catches the light beautifully, which makes it especially fresh and impactful for summer," he told E!.

Merante has a lot of tips to recreate the celebrity-approved frosty eye look at home. "I think the biggest tip is to start small and build," he told E!. "Apply shimmer or frost to the center of the lid and inner corner first, then blend outward so it feels dimensional rather than overly metallic." He recommends using fingertips to get major color payoff. "If you want the look to feel more modern, keep the rest of the eye soft and let that reflective texture be the focus."

"Ava [Max] loves a glittery eye moment, and we use it often for her stage performances. The key is really pressing the product onto the lid rather than sweeping it on," Merante told E!. "I like to use my fingertip or a sponge-tip applicator for maximum impact and minimal fallout. If any glitter does fall onto the skin, a small piece of tape picks it up perfectly without disturbing the rest of the makeup."

Meranto recommends two eye pencils and one liquid eyeshadow to get that perfect frosty eye look. "For a shimmery, colorful eye, I love the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glidr Eyeshadow Sticks in Sunny and Blue Ice swiped across the lid," he told E!. "They give you beautiful pigment and that reflective, frosted finish with very little effort."

The liquid eyeshadow he loves to use is Violette_FR's Yeux Paints in the shades Bleu de Minuit and Violette Sauvage. "[They] are also stunning and can be blended with your fingertip or a shadow brush for a vibrant wash of color."

If you're looking for something more wearable for the daytime, he recommends the Victoria Beckham Beauty Satin Kajal Liners in Cocoa Pavé and Navy Noir Pavé. "They give the eyes a softer touch of shimmer while still feeling polished and modern."

This shadow stick features a creamy texture and a smudgeproof, water-resistant formula that glides on your eyes, leaves bold color, and lasts for up to 12 hours.

Violette_FR's liquid eyeshadow is iconic for its lightweight feel and buildable formula that won't smudge, crease, or fade once it's dry.
