Tweedy occasionally uses his Substack to share covers of his current favourite songs. Earlier this year, he shared an emotive cover of Cameron Winter’s ‘Love Takes Miles’ for Valentine’s Day, dedicated to his wife Susan.
Now, he’s shared his take on Twisted Teens’ ‘Wild Connection’ from their album ‘Blame The Clown’, which was released earlier this year. Writing on Substack, Tweedy said: “I’m back from Europe and sharing a song by Twisted Teens. I recommended a different record of theirs recently. I like a lot of their songs and I like Caspian’s voice. I had trouble not trying to sing like him.
“That happens with a lot of the voices of singers I like,” he continued. “When I play their songs, I’m trying really hard not to do an imitation. But one of the reasons I do so many cover songs is that I think it’s good to hear something you like and then see what it feels like to try it on, almost like clothes. Sometimes it feels right, sometimes it feels like I’m trying to find a way into sounding like myself.
“On this one, I think I still sound like myself. I actually kind of feel like I maybe sound like a younger version of myself,” he added.

As for Wilco, the band recently announced three shows in Marrakech for March next year, which will be their first ever gigs in Africa.
Their last studio album was 2023’s ‘Cousin’, and they then followed it up with the ‘Hot Sun Cool Shroud’ EP the following year.
Last year, Tweedy announced a new triple solo album, ‘Twilight Override’ – his fifth record as a solo artist and containing 30 tracks – and he then went on to join Hayley Williams, Waxahatchee, Weyes Blood, Rufus Wainwright, Maren Morris and more as special guests when Bleachers performed at Newport Folk Festival 2025.
More recently, he made a crossword puzzle for the New York Times featuring nods to David Bowie, Sex Pistols and more, and joined Dry Cleaning’s set at Green Man festival as a surprise guest.
In 2022, the frontman spoke to NME for our Soundtrack Of My Life series, and revealed that Wilco’s song ‘Shake It Off’ from ‘Sky Blue Sky’ is one song he can’t listen to anymore.
“It’s just one of those songs that I just feel like I could do so much better now,” he said. “I just can’t listen to it. I probably would be happy playing it if somebody in the band wanted to or we got a request, but as far as the recorded version goes, I won’t listen!”
