Jessica Chastain‘s new horror movie Other Mommy is hitting theaters this week and fans have been questioning the title ever since the movie was announced. Now, she’s explaining the meaning behind it.

The horror flick follows “a terrifying trip into the darkening world of a young girl, Bela, who forms a relationship with a sinister entity in her home who looks uncannily like her own mother.”

The Oscar-winning actress stars in a dual role as Bela’s mother and as “Other Mommy,” a manifestation of the entity.

So, why is the movie called “Other Mommy” and not the rhyming “Other Mother”?

Jessica explained the choice in a new interview with AP Entertainment.

“The movie takes place from the perspective of an eight-year-old girl, and she doesn’t call her mother ‘mother.’ It’s not like a formal relationship. She calls her ‘Mommy,'” Jessica said.

Jessica revealed the the author of the source material got the idea to write the book because of something that happened to him in real life. She said, “his brother told him that his niece, one night, the brother went in to say goodnight. She said goodnight, and as he was walking out, she said, ‘Goodnight, Other Mommy.’ And he was like, ‘What does that mean?!’ This really happened. Yeah, so that’s what gave him the idea to write the book.”

“So I think it’s really, really important that the title represents Bela, who the whole movie is taking place from the point of view of,” Jessica added.

Watch the trailer now and catch the movie in theaters on October 9.
