EXCLUSIVE: Skydance Sports is developing a feature adaptation of Scouts and Raiders: The Navy’s First Special Warfare Commandos, a 1993 work of non-fiction by John B. Dwyer, which Mark Perez (Game Night) and Jason Filardi (Chapelwaite) are aboard to adapt.

Scouts and Raiders is billed as telling the true origin story of the WWII commando unit of the same name, a precursor to the Navy SEALs, including its heavy recruitment of collegiate and professional football players. The NFL is involved with the project, via its relationship with Skydance Sports, with Bill McGoldrick and Gary Shapiro set to produce, after bringing the book into the studio.

Perez is perhaps best known for his work on the Warner Bros. action-comedy Game Night, starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams. Behind Epix’s Stephen King series Chapelwaite, Filardi is also known for his writing on comedies 17 Again and Bringing Down the House.

Perez is repped by CAA, manager Kathleen Remington of Remington Creative, and Adam Kaller & Duncan Hedges at Hansen, Jacobson, Teller. Filardi is repped by David Saunders at Independent Artists Group and George Tobia at Burns & Levinson.

Skydance Sports recently received 10 Sports Emmy nominations for documentaries including America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys, WWE: Unreal, Elway and Saquon. Upcoming, they have the David Corenswet starrer Mr. Irrelevant, another NLF title, which Paramount releases Christmas Day. Other projects to come include the docuseries The Dynasty: UConn Huskies for Apple TV and Dan Fogelman’s Hulu drama series The Land.
