Schmigadoon! won best musical at the 2026 Tony Awards, one of four awards the show won. Cinco Paul won three Tonys for his work on the show – best original score, best book of a musical and as a producer of best musical. Schmigadoon! is the sixth best musical winner where one individual wrote the book, music and lyrics, following The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Rupert Holmes), Rent (Jonathan Larson), Hamilton (Lin-Manuel Miranda), Hadestown (Anaïs Mitchell) and A Strange Loop (Michael R. Jackson).
Lorne Michaels won his first Tony as one of the producers of Schmigadoon!, which is an adaptation of the first season of the 2021 musical TV series of the same name. Michaels, who accepted the Tony on behalf of the company, has won 24 Primetime Emmys, mostly for his work on Saturday Night Live.
Two other musicals – The Lost Boys: A New Musical and Ragtime – also won four awards. A revival of Arthur Miller’s 1949 classic Death of a Salesman was the top overall winner, with six awards.

Zhailon Levingston and Bill Rauch won best direction of a musical for Cats: The Jellicle Ball. This is the fourth directing team to win in this category, following Harold Prince and Michael Bennett for Follies in 1972, John Caird and Trevor Nunn for Les Miserables in 1987 and Casey Nicholaw and Trey Parker for The Book of Mormon in 2011.
Shoshana Bean won her first Tony for her featured role in The Lost Boys. She won her first Grammy in February for best musical theater album as a cast member of the Alicia Keys musical Hell’s Kitchen.
Ragtime won best revival of a musical. The original production of the show received 13 nominations, including best musical, in 1998. A 2010 revival receives six nods, including best revival of a musical.
The list of shows that were shut out on the night was headed by Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show, which went 0-9 on the night. Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) went 0-8.

This year’s Tony Awards were presented at Radio City Music Hall in New York, at two ceremonies: The Tony Awards: Act One, co-hosted by Laura Benanti and Tituss Burgess, and the main Tony Awards telecast, hosted by P!nk, who is the biggest pop star ever to host the show.
Leslie Odom Jr. sang “Without You” from Rent over the In Memoriam segment, which included such performers as Cleo Laine, Robert Redford and Robert Duvall.
André Bishop, who served as the artistic director of Lincoln Center Theater from 1992 to 2025; lighting designer Jules Fisher; and playwright and director James Lapine received Special Tony Awards for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.
