Whoopi Goldberg shut down dissent from the audience at The View after audible boos were heard following a mention of Republican Senator Ted Cruz.
The ABC daytime talk show started off Hot Topics by mentioning the Republican Midterm Convention taking place in Texas on Wednesday night. Goldberg noted that their guest today, Ted Cruz, would be at the convention, and people in the crowd made their disdain for him audible.
“Ah-ah, no, no. You know what? Look…” Goldberg said, turning to the audience.
She continued, “This is a place where Barbara Walters made sure that anybody who wanted to come and have a good conversation could come. So we want people to come, and we want to engage them. We don’t agree with them always. We don’t gel with them always, but we are respectful and I know you will be too.”
The View is celebrating 30 seasons on the air, and Goldberg is reminding audiences what the talk show concept is and paying homage to Walters’ vision.
“Sometimes you know stuff… It’s like a burp. It comes up and so just swallow it back down,” she added.
The View kicked off Season 30 on Tuesday following a month-long hiatus. Goldberg returned as moderator alongside Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro.
This September, the co-hosts will be joined by Jessica Lange, Andrew Garfield, Sarah Paulson, Billie Lourd, Maisie Williams; the cast of East of Eden, including Florence Pugh, Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist, with executive producer Zoe Kazan. Former co-host Sherri Shepherd is also set to return to the daytime talk show as a guest.
