And in a Tuesday (June 23) interview with Good Morning America about her inaugural Daisy Chain Fields exhibit, the star shared some of her inspirations as well as teased a possible duet with another iconic artist on the lineup: Stevie Nicks. “When I pictured this festival, I had an image in my head of girls sitting underneath a tree, like, making little daisy chains or flower crowns or friendship bracelets,” she told Diane Sawyer of how she chose the event’s name. “I also just like the idea of a daisy chain, how we can all be individual links in this chain that is larger than the individual.”
She also gave flowers to Lilith Fair, the groundbreaking all-women festival founded by Sarah McLachlan in the 1990s. “Actually the first person that I called when I decided that I wanted to do this festival was Sarah McLachlan,” Rodrigo revealed. “She’s a total trailblazer and an incredible artist and friend.”
The former Disney star announced Monday (June 22) that she was launching her own festival, all the proceeds of which will go to charities supporting women and girls and reproductive freedom. Taking place Aug. 29 in Irvine, Calif., Daisy Chain Fields will also feature Bikini Kill, Die Spitz, Eli, Garbage, Mitski, Not for Radio, Quiet Life, Rachel Chinouriri, Stantigold and the Breeders.
Karen O and McLachlan are billed as “special guests,” as is the Fleetwood Mac frontwoman. When Sawyer shared her own vision of Rodrigo singing “Landslide” with Nicks, the Gen Z star said with a smile: “We might make that happen for you, Diane. We’ll see. Can’t give too much away.”
News of Daisy Chain Fields comes shortly after the release of Rodrigo’s third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. Led by Billboard Hot 100-topping single “Drop Dead,” the project recently debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 485,000 equivalent album units earned — the biggest opening week of Rodrigo’s career to date.
