Joey King is opening up about her conversation with Evan Rachel Wood after taking over the role of Kylie Owens in the Practical Magic franchise.
For those who don’t know, Evan played the role of Kylie in the 1998 movie and then later revealed that she wanted to be part of the sequel, but wasn’t invited back. We later learned that Kylie needed to be recast because the character needed to be played by a college-age actress and Evan had aged out of the role.
Evan expressed her support for Joey‘s casting during a recent interview and said she understood why it “didn’t work to bring me back for the film.”

While attending the L.A. premiere of the movie, Joey talked to THR about Evan‘s support and the conversation they had.
“I actually did. I had a lovely conversation with her. You know, she did an interview not too long ago on a red carpet and I was just so appreciative of the support that she showed to me and to the rest of the cast. She is so talented and so beautiful and she made this role so special when she was a young girl. And I feel so grateful to be able to play Kylie at this age. But I love Evan so much and I so appreciate her kind words and the exchange that we shared,” Joey said.
