The Spice Girls have regained the rights to the 1997 Spice World movie and have plans to re-release it for their fans after a fresh edit and makeover.

Time to spice up your life! The Spice Girls have taken back the rights to the 1997 Spice World movie and have plans to re-release it. Melanie C (Sporty Spice) recently revealed the news on The Louis Theroux Podcast.

“It was a big hit, and it’s not on any streaming services currently,” Melanie said. “It’s not available at the moment. It will be because there were a lot of people that owned it. It was kind of all over the place.”

“So we’ve had to come together. The Spice Girls now fully own it, so we will be presenting it at some point in, hopefully, the not-too-distant future for people to enjoy,” she added.

Notably, among the edits to the film, disgraced comedian Gary Glitter’s cameo has been removed. “While the movie was getting edited, we were like, ‘Oh shit, he’s got to go,’” Melanie explained.

The British girl group, which also consists of Melanie B (Scary Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), are celebrating the 30th anniversary this year of their debut single, “Wannabe.”

There are currently no plans for a tour, but Sporty says the group has discussed some “great opportunities” for other activities. However, nothing is planned to celebrate the milestone.

“We’ll see. There’s nothing in the works, so it’s obviously not going to be anything in time for the anniversary,” she admitted. “But we are discussing lots of great opportunities.”

Melanie also noted that all five of the Spice Girls will be included in anything they plan to do going forward—even Victoria, who opted not to return for their last reunion tour in 2019.

“No one [has] left. I love it. When I’m doing shows and stuff, and if people want to introduce me, when they say ‘former Spice Girl,’ I’m really offended,” she explained. “Because once a Spice Girl, always a Spice Girl. I think we all feel like that. There might be times we choose not to work in that arena, but we’re still Spice Girls.”
