The Paley Center for Media has created a new honor tied to the return of its annual PaleyFest NY. During this year’s week-long event, the PaleyFest Award is set to recognize Billy Crystal, as well as the series “American Horror Story,” “Dexter,” “Tulsa King,” “Marshals,” “The Diplomat” and “The Gilded Age.”
The new award was created in tandem with the Paley Center’s 50th anniversary. It will be handed out annually during PaleyFest NY.
“For decades, PaleyFest—held annually in New York and Los Angeles—has been the premier celebration of media, television, and entertainment, bringing audiences together with the industry’s most influential series, creators, performers, and cultural icons,” the org said. “The PaleyFest Award builds on that legacy by formally recognizing that selection to PaleyFest is itself a mark of distinction, reflecting the excellence, creativity, and cultural significance that have long defined the festival.”
This year’s PaleyFest NY will take place from October 8 to 14 at the Paley Museum in New York. Paley also announced this year’s panels, with presale tickets going on sale starting at 10 a.m. ET today for Paley Members and Citi cardmembers.
Award winners will see their work become a permanent part of the Paley Archive.
“From exclusive premieres and behind-the-scenes conversations to unforgettable moments with the biggest names in entertainment, PaleyFest NY delivers unparalleled access to the stars and shows fans love. This year is especially momentous as we introduce the PaleyFest Award, a mark of distinction that honors the extraordinary talent and storytelling across media, television, and entertainment,” said Paley Center for Media president/CEO Maureen J. Reidy in a statement.
Among the PaleyFest Award recipients, Crystal is returning to Broadway in “860”; FX’s “American Horror Story: 13” is about to launch; the 20th anniversary “Dexter” coincides with the Season 2 premiere of “Dexter: Resurrection”; “Tulsa King” is about to launch its Season 4 premiere; “Marshals” is broadcast TV’s No. 1 new series; and “The Diplomat” and “The Gilded Age” are Emmy-nominated series.
“We’re so honored to be part of the killer line-up at PaleyFest. What a great place to give Season Four of ‘The Diplomat’ its first public outing,” said “The Diplomat” creator, showrunner, executive producer and writer Debora Cahn in a statement.
The award joins Paley Center’s Paley Honors as another prize from the organization. The Paley Honors recognizes “individuals whose groundbreaking achievements in media have consistently set the bar for excellence.”
