EXCLUSIVE: Emmy Award winner Samira Wiley (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Mileiah Vega (The Hand That Rocks the Cradle) have wrapped lead roles on The Let Go, a Colorado-shot indie drama from writer-director Kristen Wolf.
The Let Go follows Chick (Wiley), a resilient single mother determined to help her musically gifted 11-year-old daughter, Lyric (Vega), pursue her big dream. When an unexpected obstacle threatens everything they’ve worked toward, Chick must confront the secret of her own long-buried gift.
Others in the cast include Sophia Bush (One Tree Hill), Daytime Emmy nominee Midori Francis (Grey’s Anatomy), Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), Galen J. Williams (One of Them Days), Nicco Annan (P-Valley), and multiple Emmy and Tony Award nominee Tovah Feldshuh (Nobody Wants This).
Rachel Gould and Adriana Rotaru produced under their recently launched Soto Productions banner following work on Little One, the dark comedy starring David Harbour and Gaby Hoffmann, on which we were recently first to report.
Making her feature directorial debut with The Let Go, Wolf’s career has spanned film, literature and theater. She’s helmed numerous award-winning shorts — including Sparkle, Parker and the Green Dress and Club Q: The Legendary Dance Party for Women — with producing credits including the GLAAD Award-winning documentary Beyond the Aggressives, I Was Born This Way and the documentary Nasrin, narrated by Olivia Colman.
Wolf is also author of the critically acclaimed novels The Way: A Girl Who Dared to Rise and Escapement: An Exquisite Tale of Love and Passion. Her producing credits include. Additionally, she served as an investor on Michael R. Jackson’s Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning Broadway musical A Strange Loop.
Known for starring roles on the series The Handmaid’s Tale and Orange Is the New Black, Wiley’s other credits include Breaking News in Yuba County, Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television, FX’s You’re the Worst and Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit, to name a few. She is repped by Innovative Artists and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
