EXCLUSIVE: Production has wrapped on Ages of the Moon, the feature film adaptation of the play by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Sam Shepard.

Steve Buscemi (The Big Lebowski) stars in the two-hander alongside Aidan Quinn (Legends Of The Fall) who also directs. Oren Moverman (The Messenger) scripted the project, which we first told you about last spring.

Filmed on location in upstate New York, the film follows “two heartbroken lifelong friends — Ames and Byron — as they reunite at an isolated cabin. Over too many glasses of bourbon, they confront their shared past. While the two keep drinking and wait for a rare lunar event, old grievances, outrageous escapades, and macho rivalries explode to the surface. Throughout, they laugh and shed tears, exploring the depths of an intimate bond that ultimately takes a violent, emotional turn.”

As in Shepard’s 2009 play, originally commissioned by the Abbey Theater in Dublin, the film will boast a country music soundtrack to drive the story.

Pic is produced by Aidan Quinn and Buscemi along with Michaela McKee, Wren Arthur for Olive, John Harris for Country Mile, and Eyal Rimmon.

Liam Neeson is newly aboard to executive-produce alongside Beth Hamlin of Evergreensky, Dean Jankelowitz, Ron Goldman, Derrick Tsang, J. Todd Harris, J.R. Heffelfinger and Moverman.

Aidan Quinn said today: “So thrilled to have completed the shooting of Sam Shepard’s Ages of the Moon and to co-star with my old friend, the legend, Steve Buscemi. Also to work with the masterful Declan Quinn who paints with light as our DP. I’m so excited for the edit.”

Buscemi added: “My involvement with Ages of the Moon starts with Aidan Quinn. Getting to work closely with my good friend of many years was reason enough to sign on. The fact that it was a Sam Shepard two hander was icing on the cake. Challenging for sure, and a dream come true.”
