“I love this album so much,” she wrote in the Instagram message posted Friday (June 12). “The record is a time capsule of a relationship in all of its highs and lows. It’s my attempt at capturing love from both sides of the coin. The hope and the disappointment. The insanity and the clarity. The entanglement and the unraveling.”

Arriving three years after sophomore effort Guts and five years after debut album Sour — both of which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 — Rodrigo’s new 13-track LP certainly covers a wide range of emotions. Kicking off with Billboard Hot 100-topping lead single “Drop Dead,” You Seem Pretty Sad begins with joyful, passionate love songs that soon give way to anxiety, dread and, ultimately, a breakup by the end. “It sounds corny but I truly feel so lucky that I get to share in this journey with you all,” she continued after thanking producer Dan Nigro and her team at label Interscope. “The idea of someone listening to these songs and letting them into their world is the most wonderful thing I can think of. Here’s to hoping!”

Also on release day, Rodrigo gave the track “Stupid Song” its live debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live as well as premiered the music video.

She’s now gearing up to go on her Unraveled Tour in support of the project, kicking off this September and staying on the road through May.
