Late Night with Seth Meyers has been on a rather long summer hiatus but its host didn’t want to miss out on the news.

Meyers and Sal Gentile, who writes the popular A Closer Look segment, have teamed up during the hiatus to launch a video podcast – A Closer Look Out of Office – to tackle the stories that they have missed while they’ve been off.

“I’m finally being introduced to the New Hollywood,” Gentile said to open the show. “This is the new Hollywood, it’s not great, joked Meyers.”

The podcast, which you can see below, will record a number of episodes during the hiatus but it’s not clear exactly how many.

Meyers was off between June 18 and July 13, returning for two weeks before departing on July 30 and will eventually be back on September 21. This is much longer than recent breaks; last year he was off between July 18 and August 12 as well as the last week of August and in 2024 he was off the last two weeks of August (although admittedly it was an election year, which may have played into things).

The former SNL star addressed the idea of missing news on his last episode of Corrections.

“We’re about to take a very long hiatus and when we take very long hiatuses, one of the things that people say is that we’re going to miss so much. Because of that, we, through back channels, reached out to the White House and he agreed he’s not going to be weird. Until we get back,” he joked.

“I made this giant list of things that we have missed, but then we picked two or three things that we thought would be fun to actually dig into,” said Gentile.

The pair covered stories including President Donald Trump getting into a catering truck as a decoy instead of getting on Air Force One, more chaos in Iran and with Trump’s reflecting pool.

“We had to cancel a family vacation. We were going to take the kids to the Strait of Hormuz and the travel agent finally said, ‘I just wouldn’t risk it.’ Obviously, you want to bring the kids when it’s open,” joked Meyers.
