The trailer for Ransom Canyon has galloped onto the scene thanks to Netflix.

Season 2 of the Western drama series, based on the book by Jodi Thomas, arrives on Netflix July 23.

The titular Texas town hangs in the balance as ranching dynasties unravel, hearts switch allegiances and the overall future of small town culture built on ranching and agriculture comes under scrutiny. At one point, it looks like there will be a Thomas Rhett performance or concert, which can be seen in a photo below.

Lots to unpack in the two-minute clop from Heidi Engerman’s appearance as Yancy Gray’s (Jack Schumacher) wife, Syd, to Quinn’s (Minka Kelly) new beau Oliver (Ben Robson) and her mother’s (Patricia Clarkson) unexpected arrival in town.

“Our marriage was part of a con,” Schumacher tells Sid, who wears a lot of red. “One that I trusted was annulled.”

Syd showed up at the end of season one after Yancy had made a grand romantic gesture in proposing to Ellie Estevez (Marianly Tejada) with a candlelit chapel in waiting for a small intimate ceremony. Quinn also made the decision to go play piano in New York at the end of last season after a steamy back and forth with Staten, whose father (Brett Cullen) challenged him for chairmanship of the Double K Ranch.

“It’s super complicated,” Quinn tells Oliver of Staten when he asks her if he has anything to worry about. “I’m at a bit of a fork in the road.”

As Ellie — whose romantic relationship with Yancy seems really complicated but still very much happening — remarks, there are “hot men everywhere” as the clip cuts to a shirtless Lucas Russell (Garrett Wareing), who has his own things to work through with girlfriend Lauren Brigman (Lizzy Greene), who suffered a major injury last season that has chipped at her chances of a college scholarship.

“Love is a canyon,” Clarkson’s Claire O’Grady says toward the end of the trip. “It feels impossible to cross, but once you make it to the other side, it’s damn near breathtaking.”

Sweeping vistas, horseback riding, Yancy running into a police station and other artistically shot scenes pepper the trailer. No sign yet, though, of Steve Howey’s half-brother, Eli.

Casey W. Johnson has also been upped to series regular for Season 2. April Blair serves as showrunner, creator and executive producer. Executive producers include stars Duhamel and Kelly as well as Dan Angel, Bradley Gardner, Josh Duhamel, Minka Kelly, Joe Fazzio.
