Michelle Buteau surprised fans and Peppermint at NYC Pride’s “It’s Giving Brunch” Drag Brunch on Saturday (June 20) held at Stella 34 Trattoria in New York City.

The Survival of the Thickest star, creator, writer and executive producer made a surprise appearance at the event, co-hosted by her Netflix show’s co-star, and she even judged a walk-off with brunch attendees.

Peppermint‘s co-host was fellow RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Olivia Lux, with the cast of the brunch including Mo’Riah, ShowPonii and Egypt.

Next weekend, Peppermint will also be serving as one of the Grand Marshals at the NYC Pride March, along with Bowen Yang, Dominique Jackson, broadcaster Bernie Wagenblast and activist organization Gays Against Guns, on Sunday, June 28th.

Michelle‘s surprise appearance at the drag brunch comes ahead of the upcoming third and final season of their show Survival of the Thickest being released.

The comedy/drama series is inspired by Michelle‘s book of essays of the same name.

Here’s the logline: Survival of the Thickest centers on Mavis Beaumont (Buteau). Black, plus-size, and falling in love while loving herself, Mavis works hard to grow her brand as a stylist and designer. She’s determined to not only survive but thrive with the support of her chosen family, a body-positive attitude, and a cute v-neck with some lip gloss. The scripted comedy is inspired by Buteau’s acclaimed book of essays.

Survival of the Thickest season three will premiere on Netflix on July 2nd – Watch the trailer!

This season will see guest stars like Garcelle Beauvais, Wanda Sykes, DL Hughley, Ashley Graham, Ronny Chieng, Jenna Lyons, Ice-T and more.
