MobLand has announced a release date for season two, following reported on-set issues with star Tom Hardy.
Paramount+ announced on Thursday (July 9) that the second season of the show will arrive on September 18. The announcement was accompanied by a teaser trailer which can be viewed below, featuring multiple gun fights set to The Prodigy’s iconic track ‘Firestarter’. It also features the first look at new addition Johnny Flynn (Netflix’s Ripley), who appears to be one of the main antagonists for this season.
The crime drama series is directed by Guy Ritchie, and stars Hardy as a ‘fixer’ for crime barons, played by Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan. Filming of the second season saw reports emerge of arguments between Hardy and the show’s producers, as well as accounts that claimed the actor stayed in his trailer for hours, keeping his co-stars waiting.
Those articles alleged that Hardy had been fired from the show, but the claims were swiftly debunked by a source who spoke to Variety, saying issues were being resolved. At the beginning of July, Deadline reported that the actor would be returning for season three, after clearing the air in a meeting in London with producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser, facilitated by Ritchie.
MobLand’s first season received a three-star review from NME, which described the drama as “funny but familiar”, comparing it to Ritchie’s previous work. “For all the laugh-out-loud moments and intriguing plot lines, it’s hard to believe Guy Ritchie is still rolling out the same old schtick,” wrote Jordan Bassett.
Late last month, it was revealed that Tom Hardy was gearing up to release his debut rap album. The actor is collaborating with Czarface – the East Coast supergroup made up of producer 7L, rapper Esoteric, and Wu-Tang Clan‘s Inspectah Deck – for ‘Czarface Meets Frankie Pulitzer,’ with Hardy’s rap persona being Frankie Pulitzer, AKA Face Puller.
