The team behind metal strategy game Brutal Legend have made the game free-to-download following the death of Tim Curry, who played Emperor Doviculus in the metal action game.

Curry died yesterday (August 26) aged 80, though a cause of death is yet to be confirmed. 

Following the news Double Fine, who recently became an independent studio as part of a shake-up at Microsoft, made their metal action-adventure game Brutal Legend free-to-download for 666 minutes. “Rest in peace, dark prince,” they wrote on their itch page. 

“It was hard enough losing Dolly [Parton] yesterday. And now, we cry a sea of black tears for our very own Doviculus: The irreplaceable Tim Curry. May these beloved legends rest well, as we carry their spirit forward,” they added on X.

Tim Curry is best known for his roles in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Muppet Treasure Island, Home Alone 2, Clue and IT but he also starred in a number of popular video games. As well as playing Emperor Doviculus in Brutal Legend, Curry voiced the titular hero in 1993’s point-and-click adventure Gabriel Knight: Sins Of The Father and played main antagonist Arl Rendon Howe in 2009’s Dragon Age: Origins. He also appeared throughout 2008’s Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 as Premier Cherdenko. 

Following his death, fans have been sharing clips of Curry having a lot of fun filming scenes for Red Alert 3. 

Earlier today, Curry’s Rocky Horror co-star Susan Sarandon paid tribute to the actor. “What a funny, sexy, original he was. But what I loved about him most was his heart. Even wheelchair bound he continued to be so sweet and generous with his fans. Thank you Tim for meaning so much to so many people,” she wrote on social media alongside an image of the pair of them together.
