Debby Ryan is sharing insight into what life is like for her following a serious brain injury.
The 33-year-old Suite Life on Deck star appeared on a new episode of Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals where she revealed she has suffered from five concussions throughout her life.
Debby said she had a “pretty crazy, life-altering brain injury a few years ago.”
Debby had to attend neurological rehab
It left her “out of commission for six months” and she had to go to a neurological rehab.
“I went to this neurological rehab for six months, went and did this fringe science treatment that was, like, really sci-fi and crazy. I’ve done it a couple of times and it kind of got me back online, but there are some things that just did not come back,” she said.
How did her concussions happen?
According to the Disney Channel alum, the first four concussions were blunt force “incidents,” but there was “sustained shaking” for more than a minute during her fifth concussion.
Debby described it as a “pre-incident” Debby and a “post-incident” version of herself.
She also explained that she is able to see and think easier when her eyes are closed and she still battles migraines to this day.
“The visual data that I’m taking in, it can be so distracting and so loud,” she said. “Then with the migraines, which were significantly worsened by that [brain injury], it sort of is too much. And so I do find that like if there’s a thing that can make things really singular, I like that.”
If you didn’t know, Debby and her husband Josh Dunn welcomed their first child in December 2025! Josh provided an update on how Debby is doing post-partum earlier this year.
