Sombr is dishing on his friendship with Taylor Swift!
The 21-year-old “back to friends” singer helped honor the 36-year-old superstar singer back in June, and he recalled being asked to perform her songs, fangirling over her, and even what he thinks of her now husband, Travis Kelce.
Sombr shares his reaction to Taylor shouting him out in a radio interview in October 2025
“I had all these texts saying, ‘What the f-ck — Taylor Swift just shouted you out in a radio interview!’” he recalled to Variety in a new feature.
“I freaked out and fangirled. And somehow I haven’t f-cked it up,” he adds of his reaction and their friendship.
Sombr talks performing for Taylor at the Songwriters Hall of Fame
Last month, Taylor was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and she asked him to perform two of her songs!
“I asked Taylor to pick the songs for me, because I wanted the night to be fully about her, but she wouldn’t allow it,” Sombr shared. “She was like, ‘No, I want you to pick the songs.’ It put me under a lot of pressure, but she was really happy with my choices.”
He chose “Cardigan,” which he put his own spin on, as well as “Dear John,” partly because she wrote it at 19, the same age when everything changed for Sombr.
“If I looked at her for three seconds during the performance, my mind would have completely blanked because that’s Taylor Swift,” he said of his performance. “That’s a goddess. I remember looking at her for a split second while performing and almost losing it, but then I looked away.”
However, there was one moment that made him emotional, when she called him by his real name, Shane, afterward.
“It’s one thing for people to say Sombr, but when I heard Taylor Swift — someone I was never supposed to know — say the name ‘Shane,’ referencing me, that made me tear up,” he dished.
Sombr says he loves Taylor’s husband, Travis Kelce!
When asked about their friendship, Sombr said, “I don’t know if I want to get too into it. I don’t want to talk about her without her permission.”
However, he did gush over her new hubby!
“I f-cking love Travis Kelce,” he says. “That guy is the nicest guy ever.”
The interview took place before Taylor and Travis‘ July 3rd wedding, and when asked about their big day, Sombr quipped, “Who said I’m going?” with a “puckish smile.”
Indeed, Sombr was one of the many celebrity guests at the Madison Square Garden wedding!
