Cuban-American star William Levy is staying in business with Spain’s Secuoya Studios.
The Montecristo and Camino a Arcadia actor and producer struck with the Spanish-language production giant, and is immediately in development with a scripted series and a feature film that Levy will both star in and executive produce. William Levy Entertainment and Secuoya have previously teamed for the likes of ViX series Under a Volcano and the Road to Arcadia.
From the new pact, the six-part series is billed as a thriller that will “blend action, suspense, and emotional drama, centering on a plot defined by the complex relationships between its characters.” No more plot details, but Carlos Portela and Roberto Serrano are the creators.
The feature film will see Levy return to the romantic comedy space where he previously had turns in the likes of South Beach Love, Café con Aroma de Mujer and Cinderelo. He will take on a lead role, though no plot details were forthcoming.
“William Levy has been part of some of the most iconic stories in our catalog and a key creative partner in the evolution of Secuoya Studios,” said José María Caro, Chief Content Officer at Secuoya Studios.
Caro recently joined Secuoya from HBO Max Spain, a move that came a month after Secuoya Studios CEO Brendan Fitzgerald exited.
“The results achieved by our joint projects in major international markets demonstrate the strength of a collaboration built on trust and a shared ambition to develop top-tier content. We are convinced that this new phase will allow us to continue driving stories with a tremendous capacity to connect with audiences.”
Levy pointed the role Secuoya had played in his career over recent years. “We have shared great projects, challenges, and successes, and I have always found a team committed to an approach to projects that closely aligns with my own,” he added. “I am very excited about this new phase.”
The pair’s shows have travelled internationally, with Montecristo running on the likes of Movistar Plus+ in Spain and Andorra, ViX in the U.S. and Latin America, Globo (Brazil), Imagine Media (Israel), ProTV (Romania and Moldova), TV2 Media Group (Hungary), and BTV Media Group (Bulgaria), alongside various agreements covering Eastern Europe.
Meanwhile, Camino a Arcadia rolled out on SkyShowtime in more than twenty European territories, and Bajo un Volcán went out through Netflix in Spain and several other territories. Later this year, the pair will premiere Bajo un Fuego, in which Levy stars and exec produces.
