David Foster is speaking out to clear the air after he was accused of snubbing Meghan Markle at his charity event.
The Grammy-winning music producer, 76, hosted the David Foster Foundation 40th Anniversary Celebration last week in Canada. His longtime friends Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were among the many guests at the event.
A video went viral from the red carpet, showing Meghan attempting to greet David, but he continued walking past her. In reality, he was just making way for his wife Katharine McPhee to join them for a group photo.
David Foster releases statement about Meghan Markle “snub”
In a statement shared with People, David denied snubbing Meghan and explained what actually happened.
David said, “As the host of the David Foster and Friends foundation event, I had already greeted our friends, the Duke and Duchess, at the entrance 10 minutes before the red carpet encounter. They both, graciously and selflessly, gave their time and went beyond to engage with everyone. Harry and Meghan are dear friends of mine. Anyone watching can see there was no awkward moment and certainly no snub.”
“It’s sad that certain media chose to deceive a red carpet encounter for clickbait. They turned simple ‘positioning’ to get the best photo into a hurtful lie,” he added.
Meghan and Katharine have known each other since childhood
If you didn’t know, Meghan and Katharine‘s friendship dates back to childhood, when they attended the same high school and performed in shows together. They reconnected later in life and the two couples became friendly!
Katharine previously told Access Hollywood, “My husband has a really, really beautiful relationship with Harry… They’re like, they’re so cute. They’re like father and son… We just stay in touch with them. But mostly, Meghan and I knew each other from childhood, but really Harry and my husband are friends. It’s really nice.”
In 2019, David arranged for Harry and Meghan to stay at a mansion on Vancouver Island owned by a close friend, although he declined to name the owner.
