Joachim Rønning, the Norwegian filmmaker most recently at the helm of Tron: Ares, has set up his next film, the horror flick System, with Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Studios.
Currently in production in London, System‘s plot isn’t being disclosed. Unusually, its cast will remain under wraps, as well.
Rønning is directing from his own script co-written with brother Andreas Rønning. He’s also producing the film via his banner The Saga Company. Under a multi-title partnership with Image Nation, Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee (Weapons, It) and Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity, Insidious) are also producing. Image Nation Studios CEO Ben Ross (Watcher, Company) and Spooky Pictures’ Rami Yasin (Hokum) are exec producing.
UTA Independent Film Group arranged the financing and is repping sales.
Rønning broke out with the Academy Award-nominated Kon-Tiki, directed with Espen Sandberg, before going on to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Young Woman and the Sea — all for Disney, as was Tron: Ares. He is represented by UTA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
Previously, Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Studios have partnered on genre projects including Late Night with the Devil, Charlie Polinger’s The Plague, Hokum starring Adam Scott, Casey Affleck’s Company and Guy Nattiv’s The Liberation. Most recently, they announced the SCP Foundation flick V/H/S: SCP with A24.
