In their first stab at TV series development, K-Pop Demon Hunters co-writers Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan are writing A Really Bad Person, which is in the works at FX. The crime drama is a co-production between Legendary Entertainment and FX Productions.
In A Really Bad Person, which is said to have comedic overtones for a dramedy feel, a very relatable American girl who does the most unrelatable thing while visiting London – she pretends to be the missing daughter of a British family. It’s a last-ditch effort to gain citizenship, a fresh start, and escape her complicated past.
Jimenez and McMechan executive produce with Brett Baer and Dave Finkel (Bad Sisters, New Girl), who are set to supervise, and Sharon Hall (Sinatra: All Or Nothing At All).
In their first major writing gig, Jimenez and McMechan co-penned with directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans the global phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters, Netflix’s most watched movie ever with 325 million views in the first 91 days and more than 650M to date. The animated musical won the Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice Award for Best Animated Feature.
In the wake of KPop Demon Hunters’ success, Jimenez and McMechan were tapped to write a 50 Foot Woman remake, currently in development with Tim Burton, Warner Bros. and LuckyChap.
Legendary Television’s slate includes Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Apple TV), Dune: Prophecy (HBO) and the upcoming untitled Monsterverse series for Apple TV starring Wyatt Russel.
