Elle Fanning has joined an elite group of actors to earn an Oscar and Emmy nomination in the same year.
A Supporting Actress Academy Award nominee for Sentimental Value, Fanning this morning received a Lead Actress In a Comedy Series Emmy nomination for her role in Apple TV’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles.
This is Fanning’s second Emmy nomination in the category, she was also recognized in 2022 for her performance in the Hulu series The Great. Sentimental Value marked her first Oscar nomination.
Margo’s Got Money Troubles received a total of 8 Emmy noms for its freshman season this morning, including Outstanding Comedy Series; the show has been renewed for a second season.
Based on Rufi Thorpe’s best-selling novel, Margo’s Got Money Troubles follows Fanning’s eponymous character, who resorts to OnlyFans work to support herself and her newborn baby after dropping out of Fullerton College.
The most recent actors to accomplish the Oscar-Emmy nomination double in the same calendar year were Robert Downey Jr. and Ryan Gosling in 2024 when Downey Jr. won an Oscar for Oppenheimer and was an Emmy nominee for The Sympathizer while Gosling was nominated for Barbie and for hosting Saturday Night Live.
