Gersh and Other Angle Pictures have boarded Avi Nesher’s feature film “Our Loves” for sales.
Gersh will rep U.S. sales with Los Angeles-based global sales agency Other Angle takes international.
“Our Loves,” which is tipped to be Israel’s Oscar entry for international film, is set to premiere at TIFF next month as part of the Centrepiece programme as well as the Israel Academy of Film and Television’s Ophir Awards ceremony, where it has racked up 12 nominations including for best picture. The winner of best picture at Ophir automatically becomes Israel’s official Oscars entry for international feature film.
The feature film follows five men and women who are each in an unusual or fractured relationship in the months leading up to Oct. 7 (where Hamas terrorists murdered over 1,000 people and took another 240 hostage), with their lives intertwining unknowingly.
“In that rupture, each must confront unresolved wounds, seek redemption and find the possibility of a new beginning,” reads the synopsis.
It stars Shalom Michaelshvili, Magi Azarzar, Yaniv Biton, Noa Cohen, Daniel Gimpel, Hadas Yaron, Evelin Hagoel, Lena Fraifeld, Sean Mongoza, Kim Or Azulay, Leib Lev Levin, Nomi Aharoni-Gal (Nunu), Lior Miller, Elad Turgeman, Amir Banai, Nevo Katan and Itamar Pinto.
The film, which is Nesher’s 21st feature, also opens the Haifa International Film Festival next month, courtesy of United King Films, where Nesher will also be honored with a lifetime achievement award. The director, whose oeuvre includes “Rage and Glory,” “Turn Left at the End of the World” and “The Secrets,” is widely regarded as one of Israel’s most groundbreaking filmmakers. “Avi is one of the most consistent, beloved and acclaimed filmmakers in the history of Israeli cinema,” said the festival’s artistic director, Yaron Shamir. “Many of his films have become classics.”
Oliver Albou, co-founder of Other Angle with Laurence Schonberg, says “Our Loves” is “not what you expect.” “Oct. 7 is the setting but it’s not the story,” he continued. “The story is about ordinary people and how they confront an extraordinary and incredibly violent situation.
