Angelina Jolie is sharing some very rare comments about her love life.
The 51-year-old Oscar-winning actress will next be starring in the movie Couture in which she plays a filmmaker who finds a romantic partner in Paris around the same time she’s diagnosed with breast cancer.
The role has made Angelina – whose mother Marcheline Bertrand died in 2007 from complications of ovarian and breast cancer – reassess her approach to her personal life.
“I haven’t dated or been with anyone since I divorced a decade ago, right?” she told Yahoo Entertainment. “So I kind of get in my head that that aspect of me is not centered in my life if I’m focusing on my children and my family.”
If you forgot, Angelina and Brad Pitt split in 2016 after a nearly 12-year romance. They began dating in 2005 and married years later in August 2014.
Angelina went on to say that she had re-frame her thinking on the matter.
“So it took me a second to say, ‘Look, she can also love her daughter and be dedicated to her daughter and also need this as a woman and receive this as a woman,'” she reflected. “And that in fact, it might be very healing for her.”
Angelina also noted that her three daughters – Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and Vivienne, 17 – have encouraged her to move forward with her life.
“They speak to me as young women, and I see what I want for them,” she said. “I see what I don’t want them to lose and what I want them to hold on to. And in a way, this is reminding me of what I might have lost myself.”
She added that her daughters are “bringing me back to my old self.”
“I think they kind of want me now to not just be ‘Mom,'” Angelina shared. “There’s a different room for me to be that woman again, that’s not just a mom.”
“I’m thinking I have to live again,” she said of her future plans. Be free again.”
At a recent screening of Couture, Angelina spoke candidly about loss, survival, and vulnerability.
