Triple-Tony winner Patti LuPone is returning to the New York stage to portray iconic fashion editor Diana Vreeland in the one-woman Off Broadway play Full Gallop.
The production, directed by Gordon Greenberg (Rope, Broadway’s The Heart of Rock and Roll), will begin a strictly limited 12-week engagement at NY City Center Stage II on Friday, January 8, 2027. Opening night is January 17, 2027.
The announcement was made today by producers Aaron Glick and No Guarantees Productions, in association with Manhattan Theatre Club.
The play, written by Mark Hampton and Mary Louise Wilson, was first staged in 1995 at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre, making its New York premiere at MTC’s Stage II, where it now returns. That earlier production, which starred co-author Wilson, then played an extended run Off Broadway at the Westside Theatre in 1996.
The play went on to multiple productions throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
The synopsis: “She turned fashion into an empire. But when Diana Vreeland is unceremoniously fired as editor-in-chief of Vogue, she must reinvent herself, and her industry, yet again. Full Gallop is a rare visit with the unstoppable force who shaped how we look at style – and ourselves.”
The new production will be included in Manhattan Theatre Club’s six-play subscription package, with individual tickets going on sale at a date to be announced.
LuPone was last on the New York stage in the Broadway play The Roommate opposite Mia Farrow in 2024. Prior to that she won a Tony for her performance as Joanne in Marianne Elliott’s 2021 production of the Stephen Sondheim-George Furth musical Company.
In 1995 LuPone starred on Broadway as Maria Callas in another one-woman play, Terrence McNally’s play Master Class. Her other Broadway credits include Gypsy, Evita, War Paint, Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown, among others.
On TV she’s appeared in Agatha All Along, Palm Royale, Penny Dreadful, American Horror Story and 30 Rock. She starred for four seasons on ABCs Life Goes On.
