Fans of Strangers Things and Sydney Sweeney have reacted to their respective snubs at the Emmys.

The nominations for the prestigious TV awards were announced on Wednesday (July 8) morning in Los Angeles, with the ceremony itself taking place at the city’s Peacock Theater on September 14 with actress Mariska Hargitay hosting.

HBO hits The Pitt and Hacks led the pack with 25 and 24 nominations respectively, while comedy horror Widow’s Bay earned 19. One surprising title left off the list was Stranger Things, whose final season was shut out of the Best Drama and acting categories. While the finale was divisive, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their frustration.

Jamie Campbell Bower’s portrayal of Vecna was singled out in particular, with one fan declaring: “There are demogorgons in the Upside Down raging that their King was not crowned with at the very least an acknowledgement and nomination for an Emmy”. Another fan added: “Jamie not nominated for an emmy for vecna is a DISGRACE.”

Other castmembers were perceived as being snubbed in the eyes of viewers. “All jokes aside i think Gaten Matarazzo and Sadie Sink delivered Emmy-worthy performances even if the season as a whole was horrible” one argued.

Euphoria fans felt Sydney Sweeney’s portrayal of Cassie in the final season of the drama deserved recognition. “Sydney Sweeney got ROBBED,” wrote one viewer. “Those wedding meltdown scenes were Emmy gold. Cassie carried the chaos.” Another added: “She acted her ass off, I’m sorry”.

Suggesting that the political scandal surrounding the star last year may have something to do with it, one person posted: “Yes you might have issues with her for other things but her acting in that season was award winning.”

Last September’s awards saw many presenters and winners offer political messages in their speeches. It was a move mocked by Ricky Gervais on social media, who accused them of knowing “nothing about the real world” in a post that was later taken down.
