The conclusion to the Hearstopper TV universe is here in the form of a film, Netflix’s Heartstopper Forever, based on Alice Oseman’s sixth graphic novel in the series of the same name as well as her Nick and Charlie novella written back in 2015.
Following three seasons of the show, Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) and Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) have gone through so much together, but there are still obstacles to overcome, as there would be in any real-life relationship as it stretches over the years. The film sees the young couple prepare for Nick’s departure to Leeds University as well as the branching out of all of their friend group to different countries and post-grad adventures, some taking gap years and some going to school like Nick, and Elle (Yasmin Finney) who moves to Berlin to pursue her art.
Just as the series has previously featured Baby Queen, Billie Eilish, Tom Odell Maggie Rogers and songs from star William Gao’s and Olivia Hardy’s pop band Wasia Project, the film contains singles by those artists as well as some from Royel Otis, Gigi Perez, Sufjan Stevens and more. The trailer for the film featured Olivia Rodrigo’s “stupid song” very shortly after the single off her new album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love was released June 13.
