Tom Holland is not letting even ancient Greek literature steal his girl.
In a recent interview alongside The Odyssey costars Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway, he addressed a theory about Homer’s epic referring to Damon’s Odysseus and wife Zendaya’s Athena.
“‘Did Athena love Odysseus romantically?’” Holland read aloud in a Wired interview posted July 16. “No, because she’s married to me.”
Prompting smiles from his fellow castmates, Damon—dad to Alexia, 27, Isabella, 20, Gia, 17, and Stella, 15, with wife Luciana Damon—added, “Yep, good answer.”
And later, the Good Will Hunting star continued the bit while answering a question about what Athena taught Holland’s character Telemachus.
“‘What does Athena teach Telemachus?’” Pattinson asked, and Damon noted without missing a beat, “True love.”
Holland’s precious declaration of his marriage to Zendaya is especially sweet, as the couple have been extremely private about details surrounding their nuptials. Since Law Roach confirmed they had tied the knot in March, both Holland and Zendaya have made sparing references to their union.
Referencing AI generated photos of himself and Zendaya that circulated the internet after Roach’s confirmation, the Spider-Man star said he didn’t need to clarify whether the photos were real or not to his friends and family, telling Esquire last month, “Because they were all there.”
Nevertheless, Holland firmly shut down revealing more details about his and Zendaya’s big day, adding, “That’s all you’ll get on that.”
Similarly, Zendaya has addressed her attempt to strike the delicate balance of sharing her life with fans and keeping what she wants about her romance with Holland private.
“I’m aware that I’m a public person and so is he,” Zendaya explained in an interview with the New York Times’ Modern Love podcast in April. “I’m also aware that we’ve grown up in front of people and have done movies where we fall in love with each other.”
And while the Disney alum emphasized she did not want to “dismiss” fans’ interest in her personal life, she continued, “I am a very private person and I try my best to be able to have things for myself and for him as well.”
Of course, Zendaya and Holland have shared plenty of glimpses into their love over their years. Keep reading for more of their sweetest moments…
