Bruno Mars’ “I Just Might” matches one of the biggest achievements on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart with a 31st week at No. 1 (on the Oct. 10-dated list), tying Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” for the longest run at the top for any song in the list’s 68-year history.

For its record-tying frame, “I Just Might” registered 5.3 million official streams, 51.9 million in airplay audience and 1,000 song sales in the United States for the tracking week of Sept. 25-Oct. 1, according to Luminate.

As the leaderboard shuffles, here’s a review of the longest-leading No. 1s on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, which was established as a standard, all-encompassing chart in October 1958:

Weeks at No. 1, Song Title, Artist, Year(s) at No. 1

  • 31, “Luther,” Kendrick Lamar & SZA, 2024-25
  • 31, “I Just Might,” Bruno Mars, 2026
  • 22, “Not Like Us,” Kendrick Lamar, 2024-25
  • 21, “Kill Bill,” SZA, 2022-23
  • 20, “Old Town Road,” Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus, 2019
  • 18, “One Dance,” Drake feat. Wizkid & Kyla, 2016
  • 18, “Industry Baby,” Lil Nas X & Jack Harlow, 2021-22
  • 16, “Blurred Lines,” Robin Thicke feat. T.I. + Pharrell, 2013
  • 16, “Mutt,” Leon Thomas, 2025

“I Just Might,” released via Atlantic Records, debuted at No. 1 on the ranking dated Jan. 24 and has ceded the summit to only one other song, Drake’s “Janice STFU,” which took command for seven weeks in May-July. The single became Mars’ fifth Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs leader, following “That’s What I Like” (2017), a pair of Cardi B collaborations in “Finesse” (2018) and “Please Me” (2019), and “Leave the Door Open” (2021) by Silk Sonic, his venture with Anderson .Paak.

A crossover hit, “I Just Might” extended Mars’ profile across several Billboard charts. Among the highlights, it became his 10th No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, while it topped the Pop Airplay and Rhythmic Airplay rankings and reached No. 2 on Adult R&B Airplay.

As “I Just Might” continues to lead the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, it settles into another top two shutout with “Janice STFU”: The pair have dominated the top two slots for the last 18 consecutive weeks.

Drake — but not through “Janice” — is shaping up as the main challenger to delay or prevent “I Just Might” from claiming the record for most weeks at No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs outright. The superstar rapper released new tracks from a deluxe edition of his HABIBTI album on Friday (Oct. 2), set to affect next week’s rankings. “Solar Eclipse,” a collaboration with Don Toliver, is the likeliest contender and has its roots in a historic, chart-topping hit: Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas,” which broke the record for most weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100.
