Alessio Liguori is to direct “Moriarty Rising: A Sherlock Holmes Tale” in Turin, Italy. The project, written by Oliver Draiv, explores the origins of Sherlock Holmes’ greatest adversary against the backdrop of modern-day Turin.
“Moriarty Rising” is a “dual-format” production, meaning it will function both as a premium vertical series and a standalone feature film.
It is produced by Former Prodigy Media, the production company led by Christopher Knight, who starred in “The Brady Bunch,” and two-time Emmy Award-nominated producer Phil Viardo, feature film producer Rob McGillivray of Tip-Top Productions, and executive producer Jonathan Miller of Alation Media.
The project is being produced in Italy through a partnership with Milan-based Greif Produktion SRL, led by producers Gianluca Lazzaroni, who served as production supervisor on Paramount Pictures’ “The Italian Job,” and Fabio Canepa, whose credits include the television series “Hotel Portofino.”
“Moriarty Rising” is the third in a slate of premium dual-format titles developed, financed and produced through a partnership between Former Prodigy Media’s commercial division Marquee Content, Portrait Pictures, a sister company to Tip-Top Productions, and Alation Media, through a dedicated vehicle established by Miller to develop and finance premium content for the international marketplace.
“Together, we are building a pipeline of elevated dual-format productions that don’t ask audiences, or platforms to choose between quality and format,” said McGillivray. “The goal is content that performs at the highest level for both premium vertical platforms and traditional film distribution.”
Additional titles in the slate include “Billionaire’s Broken Vow,” directed by Alex Boi and starring Lottie Guidi, Robbie Silverman and Academy Award-nominated actor Eric Roberts, as well as “Haunted By You,” a supernatural romance horror thriller written and directed by Olia Oparina and starring Tiffany Alvord, Eric Lutz and Dante Ayala. Both productions recently wrapped principal photography in Los Angeles.
