After recently landing the role of Rogue in the upcoming X-Men movie, Inde Navarrette is continuing to build out her slate as she is now attached to star in The Waffle House Index, with Apple Original Films recently landing rights to the package.
Plan B is on board to produce, with Louis Paxton attached to direct. Andrew Nunnelly penned the script, which landed on the 2025 Black List. Full plot details are under wraps, but the Black List logline noted that the “Waffle House Index” is a metric use by FEMA to measure the severity of a natural disaster, and Jane works the graveyard shift at her local Waffle House with a storm coming.
Apple Studios will serve as the studio and Plan B will produce. In addition to starring, Navarrette will serve as executive producer.
Following her acclaimed breakout role in the blockbuster hit Obsession, Navarrette has had her fair share of meetings and offers from which to choose in recent months, with this script at the top of her list. The package began coming together in August, with sources saying Apple moved quickly to land rights.
Landing the role of Rogue in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men marks a major new chapter for Navarrette, who first broke onto the scene with her portrayal of Estela De La Cruz in the fourth and final season of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why. She also appeared in the CW series Superman & Lois.
Nunnelly is currently writing Anomaly for Searchlight Pictures with Rhys Thomas attached to direct. He is also developing The Sleep Train with Thomas.
