Alexander Skarsgård has one rock hard body in the upcoming romantic fantasy movie, Wicker…and he evidently knows how to use it.
Here’s the official synopsis for the Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson-directed film:
An audacious comedic fable about sex, marriage, and the absurdities of social convention, WICKER tells the wholly original love story of an ostracized fisherwoman (Olivia Colman) who commissions a husband to be made by the local basketmaker (Peter Dinklage). When her wicker husband (Skarsgård) proves more spectacular than she ever imagined, his soulful spirit and unique prowess awaken something inside her, setting off a wave of jealousy, fascination, and upheaval that threatens the very fabric of village life.
“Most male actors dream of playing Hamlet at some point in their career. I never did. My dream was always to have nipples made out of wicker. Thanks to our wonderful directors, Eleanor and Alex, and the brilliant artists at Weta in New Zealand, my dream has finally come true,” Alexander amusingly said in a statement to EW.
In her own statement, Olivia called the movie “one of the best and most original scripts I’d read in a long time.”
The directors added: “Alex’s performance, while incredibly nuanced and understated, was very technically and physically challenging, and it’s really the marriage of the prosthetic and the performance that sells the whole thing. Once he was walking and talking as the Wicker Husband, we knew the spectacle, the romance, the whole heart of the movie was in safe hands.”
The film was adapted from the short story “The Wicker Husband” by Ursula Wills-Jones.
“Alex is funny, intelligent, and beautiful anyway — in the wicker costume, he’s breathtaking. Everything is exaggerated; he’s a work of art. Alex fills the Wicker Husband with a beautiful soul,” Olivia added.
Wicker hits select theaters on October 23, with a wider release on October 30. Watch the wild first trailer above!
