Nearly one year after his mental health episode went viral, Lil Nas X has found a diagnosis and is ready to get back to making music.
On Wednesday, the 2x Grammy winner (real name Montero Hill) announced that he has “new music on the way” following a rehab stay and a bipolar diagnosis, after he was arrested for battery on a police officer last August when he was spotted strolling down Ventura Blvd in underwear and cowboy boots.
“I’ve been in rehab for a few months, and since then, I’ve been back at home, whether it’s in Atlanta with my family or Los Angeles with myself and friends and whatnot,” he updated his fans in a video on Instagram. “And trying to ground myself down to earth and get out of my head. I have a therapist now and a psychiatrist, which has been really helpful. When I got my bipolar disorder diagnosis, I feel like I had known for the past few years, but I didn’t wanna admit to it because I didn’t wanna have to take medication and have people think different of me. I mean, I’m already Black and gay. Like, damn God… I’m living life on like extreme hard mode.”
In April, Hill had his felony assault charges dropped when a judge ordered him to enter a mental health diversion program, following his bipolar diagnosis.
Lil Nas X continued, “On a serious note, I’m doing much better. I’m doing better, I’m feeling better, I’m creating freely, and there’s less fear in my heart, and I’m just smelling the roses, man. It’s been seven years, I’ve been doing music for seven years now, that’s crazy.
“Speaking of music, I wanted to let you guys know that there is new music on the way, and I’m not getting completely into that just yet, but I’m excited to do that,” he added. “And I’m excited to go on this journey with you guys, this next chapter. Shit, ‘Montourage’, we’ve been through so much together. Thank you guys for holding it down, and I love you, and all I wanna do is continue to try to make you proud and make myself proud. So, let’s go, Dreamboy, let’s go.”
In November 2024, Lil Nas X announced Dreamboy as his sophomore album after releasing the lead single ‘Light Again!’.
