Belmont Cameli has become one of 2026’s biggest breakout actors thanks to his role in Prime Video’s Off Campus, but there was some disappointment over his appearance at ALDS game three.

The 28-year-old actor threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game between the Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox on Wednesday (October 7) at Rate Field in Chicago, Ill.

Belmont‘s appearance certainly delighted fans of his TV show, but many people in the crowd were underwhelmed. And it’s all because of speculation that went wild in the past 24 hours.

A mystery guest was teased for the first pitch

White Sox reporter Scott Merkin went on X the day before the game to tease a “big name” throwing out the first pitch.

“Sounds like a big name throwing out the first pitch for tomorrow’s game. No hints given, so have at it,” Scott tweeted. He added, “This should be clarified: No hints were given to me as to who it is. So that’s why I said have at it.”

Well, the guesses went crazy.

Sports fans were guessing that the first pitch might be thrown out by Chicago celebs like Barack Obama, Pope Leo XIV, Michael Jordan, or other major sports stars from the city. There was also speculation that members from the 2005 White Sox team, who won the World Series back then, might appear.

Belmont Cameli ended up being the big name

Belmont grew up in a suburb of Chicago, so he actually is a very-fitting choice for the first pitch! It’s unfortunate that fans were speculating other names and ended up being upset.

White Sox fans shared their thoughts on X.
