Perez Hilton is currently recovering in the hospital after a disturbing incident at his Miami home, where he has only been living for a couple months.
The 48-year-old gossip blogger and media personality was hospitalized in the evening hours of Tuesday (August 4) after appearing to harm himself in a live stream on social media.
Perez grew up in Miami, Florida, but he moved away years ago and just returned to his hometown to start a new chapter of his life.
Why Perez Hilton moved to Miami
Perez updated his followers about his move to Miami on June 17, revealing that “God” told him to move. People reported that “he and his children were moving from Las Vegas to Miami to be closer to his mother.”
“We’re moving permanently to Miami,” he said in the YouTube video. “I know this is the right move for me and my children and my mother.”
“God told me to move to Miami. I was in the car with my mother and all of a sudden, the Holy Spirit made these words come out of my mouth – ‘Let’s move to Miami,'” he said.
Perez added, “My entire family is in Miami. I still have friends from high school and many other friends that I’ve made throughout the years and friends that have moved from New York City and Los Angeles. So Miami, though I have not lived there in 30 years, has always been my home. And once we move there, which if you’re seeing this, that’s going to happen any second now. It’ll feel like home right away.”
Perez Hilton felt “overwhelmed” by the move
Perez said in a YouTube video on June 28 that he was struggling amid his decision to move.
“I was in a bit of a spiral, because I was overwhelmed with our move to Miami and I didn’t do these things that I know are good for me,” he said. “And there is a direct correlation between the effort you put in at the gym and the effort that you put in with your faith. Reading the Bible, going to church, that’s work.”
After going to church, Perez said he was feeling better. “I was a little bit anxious, but more soothed and inspired and centered than anything,” he said.
Perez’s move to an “emotional toll on him”
TMZ says that Perez‘s move “took an emotional toll on him.”
“Perez moved primarily for his older mom Teresita, who has family in Miami and wasn’t happy living in Vegas,” the outlet reported.
TMZ reports that Perez decided to put “everyone else’s needs above his own” and “didn’t anticipate how difficult the transition would be.” The outlet says that he struggled to rebuild his career in Miami and was beginning to “second guess the move.”
