A major scandal that has rocked the golf world has impacted the debut season of The Golf Channel‘s reboot of The Big Break reality competition series.

The new season, which was due to premiere Tuesday, August 25, has been canceled after Good Good announced it would be stepping away as title sponsor of the Good Good Championship, a new PGA Tour event set for November in Austin, Texas.

The winner of the reboot’s debut season was supposed to receive a sponsor exemption to compete in the Austin event. Since Good Good pulled out, there was no prize to be given, hence the season cancellation.

The controversy erupted a week ago when Good Good posted on its social channels a 60-second ad, which has since been taken down, depicting one of Good Good’s members knocking down a female member reaching for his golf bag and then standing over her, saying, “Do not touch my new driver.”

Golf Channel had initially postponed the series premiere, originally scheduled for this past Tuesday night, to Sept. 1.

The Versant cable network then followed with a statement Thursday on social media:

“Following recent developments involving Good Good, and including the fact that the intended outcome of the series can no longer be fulfilled, Golf Channel will not be able to complete this season of Big Break as planned,” Golf Channel said in the statement. “While we are disappointed for the 12 competitors, our production team that worked tirelessly on the season, and the show’s passionate fans, we look forward to Big Break’s return to Golf Channel in 2027.”

The Big Break aired from 2003-2015, when the series was canceled amid cuts by Golf Channel’s then-owner NBCUniversal. In October 2025, Golf Channel announced that The Big Break would be revived for a 24th season, in collaboration with the golf-oriented media company Good Good.

The debut season was filmed late April to early May at the Horseshoe Bay Resort, near Austin.
