The entertainment database is launching a new professional category for digital creators. It means that streamers, vloggers, essayists, gaming creators and influencers can now connect with audiences, peers and potential employers by highlighting their work.

Many content creators already use IMDb when they appear in certain projects but the move brings the creator universe closer to the traditional entertainment industry at a time when the two worlds are rapidly colliding.

They can also feature multiple professions on their page so someone can be an influencer as well as an actor.

In addition to being on IMDb, they are also being accepted on IMDbPro.

The move is being launched at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where IMDb is hosting an industry cocktail party on September 14.

A poll by Morning Consult in 2024 showed that more than half of young people wanted to grow up to become influencers. The survey of 1,000 members of Gen-Z showed that 57% wanted to be digital creators. Some 41% of adults would also choose that profession as well, the poll of over 2,200 adults also showed.

“IMDbPro empowers entertainment professionals with tools that help them get discovered, build their reputation, and advance their careers,” said Nikki Santoro, CEO of IMDb. “Digital creators and their representatives need that same infrastructure, and producers, casting directors, studio executives, and brand partners need a reliable way to find them. We’re excited to add a category that bridges that gap and gives creators a discoverable industry profile.”
