Josh Allen is calling out the “very unfortunate” way the news about his NFL teammate Ed Oliver‘s son was disclosed to the public.
Over the weekend, some NFL-related social media accounts began spreading the news that Ed‘s two-year-old son, also named Ed, had passed away in a drowning accident earlier in the summer.
Instead of allowing Ed to decide the timeline to announce the news on his own, the news got out, and Josh, who is the quarterback for the Buffalo Bills team, had something to say.
Josh Allen called out those who leaked the news, and thanked those who knew and kept it private
“First off, I want to say thank you to the ones that knew about it, and allowed him to have his moment and his time. It’s very sad. And, you know how it came out. It makes me very, very sad and angry at the same time,” he shared in a post-game press conference on Saturday (August 22).
He continued, “As a teammate of [Ed] and as someone in this locker room, all we can do is love on him. There’s nothing that you can say to make the situation any better but except being there for him in whatever ways he needs. And that’s what we’re going to continue to do. That’s what teammates do. We love up on each other and try to hold each other up when we’re down. I can’t imagine what he’s going through.”
What happened to Ed Oliver’s son?
The young boy was “found unresponsive in a swimming pool by family members at a residence outside Houston,” ESPN reports. A source close to the family asks for “privacy and prayers at this very difficult time.”
The incident reportedly occurred on June 28, when Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded “to an in-progress life-in-danger call,” per ESPN. He was reportedly discovered unresponsive by his parents in the swimming pool at their home, and taken by ambulance to a Houston, Texas hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Our thoughts are with Ed‘s loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. RIP.
